A 30-year-old Palm Bay man faces murder charges in connection with a shooting at Eddie Lee Taylor, Sr. Community Complex that left one man dead and another critically wounded Saturday evening.

Detectives arrested Andrew Guzman at the home of a relative in Palm Bay without incident on Monday, charging him with first-degree premeditated murder, attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail Complex, where he remains on a no-bond status.

Police previously identified 31-year-old Devon Lakes of Palm Bay as the person killed in the shooting, one of two shootings on Saturday in south Melbourne near the park formally known as Lipscomb Park.

Melbourne detectives said their investigation did not show a link between the fatal shooting and a nearby incident that left a third person critically injured earlier in the day.

Youth football games had attracted a crowd to the park at the time of the fatal shooting. Police believe a large crowd also gathered throughout the park after the funeral of Craig "Dew" Dewberry Jr. , according to a press release. The 27-year-old Palm Bay resident was killed Sept. 10 during a robbery at nearby Tip Top Mini Mart on Monroe Street, and a 21-year-old Homestead man was charged with first degree murder in his death.

Two shootings in space of a few hours

Four hours before Saturday's fatal shooting, police had been called to the 900 block of Camphor Way, a short residential street off Lipscomb Street near the northwest corner of the park, after a man was shot and critically wounded. In that incident, police said, an unknown gunman got out of a light-colored car and started shooting at the victim and at least one other male, who were in a residential driveway. The vehicle left the scene after the shooting.

Then, at 7:24 p.m. — while police investigators were still on scene at Camphor Way — gunshots rang out at the park entrance off Monroe Street.

One man, later identified as Lakes, was fatally shot in a parking lot, and another man was critically injured. An arrest warrant was obtained for Guzman after an investigation. No arrest has been made in the other Saturday shooting as of Tuesday, according to police reports.

Detectives ask anyone with information to call the Melbourne Police Department at 321-608-6731 or Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
