Originally completed in 1931, the Tudor-style home – known as the Castle – was built by Walter A. Strong as a summer home away from Chicago. Unfortunately, Strong died suddenly before the house was completed. His children sold the property to the Presbyterian Church for $185,000.The center can host weddings, banquets, luncheons, and corporate events. Utilizing their large commercial kitchen, Stronghold also provides food for events. During the summer, they host a variety of camps for children, families, and seniors. The center is open for public access year-round, but the staff asks that you register at the front desk if you’ll be on site. The property hosts a frisbee golf course as well as low and high ropes team-building courses.All proceeds from the faire go towards the operations of Stronghold. Being almost 100 years old, the property requires a lot of maintenance.“Every day is a day of restoration,” said Kitty Johnson, reservation coordinator. Stronghold itself needs a new roof that is estimated to cost $3,000,0000.
