Excellent article. I was born and raised in California. ELA to be exact. My father and mother did not want us to have the problems they did in school, so English was spoken primarily. We still had relatives who spike Spanish and English. I never learned to speak it, but I do understand it. Our father was proud to be an American of Mexican descent and so am I. And that's who I am. When I came here to New Mexico, I was quite shocked that being of Mexican descent was kind of an insult. But that's ok. I am what I am. I am still an American.
