The proposed River Park development has had its share of twists and turns as plans have shifted over time for the mega mixed-use project slated for 109 acres along East Riverside Drive in Southeast Austin.

The latest plan calls for a music and entertainment venue to be part of the mix — a "state of the art facility' that developers Presidium and Partners Group say would be a place for "all to enjoy." The developers say they have an agreement with a third-party operator, but aren't saying who that is just yet.

The venue would kick off the first phase of the master-planned River Park development.

Michael Piano, Presidium's vice president of development, said there is "pent-up market demand in Austin for a mid-size, indoor venue, which meets the needs of rising stars and bridges an existing market gap between smaller, local venues and larger arenas."

As currently envisioned, the overall River Park development is planned for 10 million square feet of development to be built in phases over the next 10 to 20 years. The site is bordered by Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metro Park, East Riverside Drive, Pleasant Valley Road and Country Club Creek. Plans include more than 30 acres of publicly accessible open space, parkland and urban trails leading into Roy G. Guerrero Park.

Almost 1,000 apartment units are proposed in River Park's first phase, along with retail space and a public park.
