TRYON—On Saturday, September 21, Polk County Animal Control held an emergency rabies clinic at Harmon Field’s open-air gym after the remains of a skunk found in Tryon tested positive for the disease.

According to Animal Control Officer Patti Oates Lovelace, the clinic was a huge success, with 73 animals vaccinated at the event.

“Many thanks to Dr. Nick Buchanan and the staff from Bonnie Brae Veterinary Hospital, and all the volunteers who came out today to help,” Lovelace said.

Under state law, all dogs, cats, and ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies, and failure to vaccinate pets and provide certification can result in a citation.
