Two people were arrested and a police K-9 was killed after a vehicle pursuit in Nampa on Saturday evening.

According to a news release from the Nampa Police Department, officers were notified of a drug deal that was about to take place at “a commercial location” just before 6 p.m. on Saturday.

They identified the suspect as 27-year-old Tanner Lucas Howe, who was on parole, the news release stated. Police said Howe was in a vehicle driven by Stephanie Ann Kettermann, 33.

The suspect vehicle did not yield at an initiated traffic stop set up by police, and a pursuit followed, Nampa police said. Officers then attempted to perform a “Precision Immobilization Technique” (PIT) maneuver near Ustick Road and Polara Way, located north of the city.

The vehicle turned into a police car, “ramming it, and causing both vehicles to roll and leave the roadway and land in a corn field,” the release stated.

While an officer was taken to a local hospital, he was treated for injuries and released.

Unfortunately, one of the NPD’s K-9’s, Riddick, did not survive the rollover crash and died at the scene.

“His body was transported, with police escort, to a local veterinary hospital in Nampa where he will remain until a memorial service is held,” the news release stated.

Kettermann, a resident of Kuna, was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released to police custody.

An area search ensued for Howe with the assistance of the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office, Meridian Police Department, Caldwell Police Department and Idaho State Police. A perimeter was set, and the process included “an extensive search of a large cornfield,” according to the release.

Not long after, dispatch received information that Howe was at a local convenience store, where he was arrested by Nampa police.

According to the news release, Kettermann is charged with the following: Battery on law enforcement (felony); eluding (felony); trafficking meth (felony); possession schedule 2 controlled substance (felony); possession psilocybin mushrooms (misdemeanor); possession schedule 4 controlled substance (misdemeanor); and possession paraphernalia (misdemeanor).

Howe was arrested on a parole agent’s warrant, Nampa police said.

Both are in custody at the Canyon County Jail.
