DETROIT (WWJ) — A suspect is in custody after a shooting in a Meijer parking lot on Detroit’s north side late Tuesday morning sent one person to the hospital.

Detroit police officials say the shooting happened around 11 a.m. on Sept. 24 in the parking lot of the strip mall near 8 Mile and Woodward, which is home to a Meijer and a number of other stores.

While many circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been released, officials say two people got into a fight outside and at some point, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot, hitting the victim.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The suspect was taken into custody “due to the quick response” of Detroit police officers, DPD Cmdr. Donna McCord told reporters Tuesday afternoon. McCord said there is no threat to the community.

Authorities did not say what prompted the altercation that escalated to gun violence.

No information about the victim or suspect was released.

Quick response meaning they have officers stationed at the store at all times just like further west on eight mile at Sam’s Club.
