While the Britain Coveys and Adam Thielens of the world are not heavily rostered, DeVonta Smith, Justin Herbert, Sam Laporta, and Trey McBride are. So, for those of you who need to hit the waiver wire, here are some options. I am using Yahoo’s rostership percentages.</p><h2>Waiver Wire QB Pickups</h2><h2>Aaron Rodgers</h2><p><b>50% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>50% is probably my threshold in terms of recommending anyone, and if you’re in a league that’s larger than 12 teams, then Rodgers probably isn’t available. The Jets are my personal pick to win the AFC East as their defense is a championship-level one (imagine how good they would be if Hasson Reddick ever decides to show up), but Rodgers showed that he would be capable of making this offense work, especially against weaker opponents. The Jets gets some tough defenses over the next few weeks, so this is more of a stash a backup QB move than someone who is poised for fantasy greatness over the next month.</p><h2>Sam Darnold</h2><p><b>30% owned. 0 – 5% of FAAB</b></p><p>In one league I am seriously considering adding Darnold as Kirk Cousins just isn’t it right now. (I know, what am I doing with Kirk as my starter in first the first place? Well, let’s just say I’m loaded at RB and WR in a 14 team league and leave it at that.) HC Kevin O’Connell’s offense is one that produces solid fantasy QBs. I was curious just how well that would extend to Sam Darnold, but Darnold is looking like the QB he was supposed to be when he was drafted. Now, Darnold suffered a knee injury that could pose problems for the QB, so tread lightly with your FAAB and priority.</p><h2>Justin Fields</h2><p><b>17% owned. 0 – 5% FAAB</b></p><p>Yep, he’s still there. I have a feeling these ownership numbers will see an uptick after Fields’ first 20 fantasy point outing of the season. The Steelers have had a winning season every year since MySpace was launched (2003 for those of you who weren’t around for the dawn of social media), and Fields has them at 3 – 0. He is the starter now and gets the fantasy friendly environments of the Colts and Cowboys over the next 2 weeks.</p><h2>Andy Dalton</h2><p><b>5% owned, 3 – 5% FAAB</b></p><p>Dalton would have made this space last week if it were announced a little sooner that he would be starting. The Panthers will be enjoying a little more success in their passing game in the coming weeks. 300 yards and 3 TDs won’t be on the menu every game, but Dalton is a capable NFL QB who could fill in nicely for someone who just lost Justin Herbert.</p><p>I’m not recommending <b>Bo Nix,</b> as his schedule over the next month looks brutal.</p><h2>Waiver Wire RB Pickups</h2><h2>Chuba Hubbard</h2><p><b>52% owned, 3 – 5% FAAB</b></p><p>I know this exceeds my 50% rule, but Hubbard should be rostered more highly than this. The whole Panther offense is going to be better with Dalton under center. Jonathon Brooks will eventually make his presence felt here, though.</p><h2>Cam Akers</h2><p><b>46% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>Many people made this move prior to Houston’s game against Minnesota. While Akers did bail out his owners with a TD reception, his snap share and opportunities are a little concerning. As such, I recommend no dollars nor priority wasting here. If Mixon continues to miss, there will be games where Akers is featured a little more, but that appears directly attached to game script. <b>Dare Ogunbowale</b> and <b>J.J. Taylor</b> received more work and snaps as the Texans tried to throw to stay in the game. Considering this is not a clear upgrade for Akers’ fantasy status, and the likelihood of losing opportunity once Mixon is back, I can’t recommend spending much here.</p><h2>Bucky Irving</h2><p><b>35% owned, 2 – 3% FAAB</b></p><p>Many owners added Irving last week when reports surfaced that Rachaad White was dealing with an ailment. While White played on Sunday, Irving was involved much more and showed some serious ability. Now the combination of a White injury and a trailing game script may have played into the young RB’s opportunities, but Irving’s role should continue to grow over time.</p><h2>Kareem Hunt</h2><p><b>33% owned, 5% FAAB</b></p><p>I was not shocked that Hunt was inactive on Sunday after just being signed last week. However, I am convinced that he will be the starting RB here sooner rather than later. Andy Reid’s RB1s are fantasy gold.</p><h2>Alexander Mattison</h2><p><b>31% owned, 0 – 2% FAAB</b></p><p>Mattison just refuses to not have relevance in the early stages of the 2024 season. While he doesn’t have volume, he is getting passing down work and he appears to be the goal line back. He’s averaging roughly 9 fantasy points a game in standard scoring which is more than I can say for D’Andre Swift. Not that I’m bitter or anything.</p><h2>Emmanuel Wilson</h2><p><b>3% owned, 0 – 2% FAAB</b></p><p>As the short season has passed, Wilson has enjoyed an expanding role in the Packers’ offense. This culminated in 14 opportunities against the Titans on Sunday. A TD shouldn’t be expected every game, but at the very least it would be wise to protect your Josh Jacobs investments. I wouldn’t make this move, however, unless you’re desperate or have Jacobs.</p><h2>Isaac Guerendo</h2><p><b>3% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>I mentioned Mr. Guerendo last week. This week, he showed up a little in the box score as the rookie got a few more opportunities. I see his role expanding as we move deeper into the season. Mason owners will be kicking themselves if he goes down to injury and they didn’t stash Guerendo in advance. But CMC will be back soon, you say? I don’t know. The dude just flew to Germany to have his Achilles looked at by a specialist.</p><h2>Waiver Wire WR Pickups</h2><p><b>Quentin Johnston</b></p><p><b>45% owned, 3 – 5% FAAB</b></p><p>He caught another TD this week. It was one of his 2 catches, but still. The Justin Herbert injury does have me concerned, but he is the WR1 in LA.</p><h2>Jauan Jennings</h2><p><b>32% owned, 3% FAAB</b></p><p>I hesitate to even put Jennings here as I fully anticipate that someone is going to outbid me for him, and that’s if I even put in a claim for him. Do not chase in fantasy football. The Jauan Jennings all time career game just happened. It ain’t happening again. Sure, Jennings appears to be WR2 in this offense with Deebo and Kittle out, and that may have fantasy use for a game or a few, but that will change when they come back. Oh, and Ricky Pearsall will eventually make the field too. Let someone else overpay for Jennings.</p><h2>Allen Lazard</h2><p><b>30% owned, 1 – 3% FAAB</b></p><p>Yeah, he’s still out there. There will be inconsistency with Lazard, but the connection with Rodgers is clearly there. If anything were to happen to Rodgers though, toss Lazard away and run for the hills.</p><h2>Jalen Nailor</h2><p><b>11% owned, 1 – 3% FAAB</b></p><p>I’d feel a little more comfortable if Sam Darnold hadn’t gotten injured, but reports indicate that the MRI was negative and the Vikings are hopeful that he can go for Week 4. Nailor’s fantasy value will probably take a dip when Jordan Addison returns, and possibly another hit when TJ Hockenson comes off IR, but Nailor’s scored in 3 straight weeks and is a part of an offense that prioritizes passing. Oh, and Nailor should have had a second TD on Sunday, but that was wiped off the board due to a phantom PI call on Aaron Jones.</p><h2>Josh Reynolds</h2><p><b>4% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>If you’re desperate for help at WR, you could roll with the veteran who still appears to be WR2 for the Broncos. That will fluctuate though, and Reynolds will be inconsistent with fantasy production. He’ll be a popular add the week after he scores 2 TDs.</p><p>I’d recommend <b>Adam Thielen</b> if it weren’t for the hamstring injury that supposedly will keep him out of the lineup for “some time.”</p><h2>Waiver Wire TE Pickups</h2><p>Man, what a dumpster fire this position has become in 2024. I don’t think anyone is happy with the TE they drafted this year. Maybe Brock Bowers owners. Anyway, since half the managers out there are looking for a TE, let’s see what the waiver wire holds.</p><h2>Cole Kmet</h2><p><b>41% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>He’ll have spike weeks and other weeks when you need to file a Missing Persons Report (like the one I just filed on Mark Andrews).</p><h2>Mike Gesicki</h2><p><b>41% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>Gesicki has a steady role in the Bengals offense. If Cincinnati is going to be trailing every game, then we can probably rely on a handful of targets for Gesicki as they throw to try and keep up.</p><h2>Zach Ertz</h2><p><b>23% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>He’s been consistently getting targets. He hasn’t done much with them, but that’s better than a zero at the position.</p><h2>Brenton Strange</h2><p><b>22% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>Someone is probably going to bid some FAAB on Strange after his TD on primetime television. I can’t recommend that as Strange’s value will take a huge hit once Evan Engram returns. But the TE1 position is used frequently in Doug Pederson-led offenses and Strange will have value if he is in that role.</p><h2>Tyler Conklin</h2><p><b>15% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>Like most TEs, Conklin will have spike weeks and dud weeks. He is the primary TE for the Jets, however, and you could do worse than having a TE whose QB is Aaron Rodgers.</p><h2>Eric Saubert</h2><p><b>1% owned, 0% FAAB</b></p><p>Desperate at the TE position? If George Kittle is out for some time, Saubert will fill that TE1 spot. It may not amount to much, just like it did not against the Rams this past Sunday, but the TE1 spot has value in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. With a full week to scheme and prepare for the Patriots who just let Ty Conklin go off, it wouldn’t surprise me if Saubert catches some passes in this matchup.</p><p>Matt has been playing fantasy football since the early 2000s and Daily Fantasy Sports since 2015.
