Eagles Star Saquon Barkley Addresses 'Disrespect' After Week 3 Dominance

Week 3 was a bit of a redemption outing for Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, as he bounced back from a late dropped pass in Philadelphia’s loss to the Falcons in Week 2 to deliver a key fourth-quarter touchdown run of 65 yards, followed 12 minutes later by a four-yard game-winning touchdown run.

In all, Barkley had 147 yards rushing on the day, and ran his total for the year to a league-high 351 yards on the ground. His four touchdowns also lead the NFL.

It has been quite an introduction to the Eagles for Barkley, who had spent the first six years of his career with the Giants. Barkley was a free agent this offseason and signed with Philadelphia on a three-year, $37.8 million contract . He was hoping to stay in New York, but was disappointed to find that the Giants did not come back with a final offer to keep him.

Fellow Penn State football alum Michael Robinson, speaking with Barkley on Tuesday morning on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football,” asked Barkley if he was running with a bit of anger on his side after being slighted by the Giants.

“Are you a little p---ed off, man, are you feeling a little disrespected?” Robinson asked.

“I wouldn’t say disrespected, but definitely, you know ... motivated. Let’s say that. I’ll use those words. Motivated,” Barkley said. “And you need that, you need stuff like that in your career to happen. I know the type of player that I am, I know what I am able to bring. I am just happy to be able to show that with this team.”

Barkley is happy to be putting up the kinds of numbers he has posted thus far in 2024, but he was quick to credit the Eagles offensive line, too. They were sterling in Week 3, even with injuries to the right side, as guard Mekhi Becton (finger) and tackle Lane Johnson (concussion) left the game.

“Those guys go out there every single day and block their—I can’t say the word—but they block their tails off. I want to go out and perform at a high level for those guys,” Barkley said.

No one in Philly blames Barkley for that pass drop. I am more worried about Hurts reading defenses in pass plays
