He will read from his new book, “Aerie,” recently published by Shipwreckt Books, of Winona.Butterfass has lived in Rochester with his wife, Ellen, for the past three decades, where they have raised three children. When not working in the Med City, he lives in a two-room cabin on forested land in the blufflands of southeastern Minnesota. There he wanders the bluffs and valleys with his yellow Lab, Oshie, immersing himself in study of the natural world. Much of his work reflects his thinking about the world in solitude.Butterfass holds an MFA in poetry from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and has made his living, among other ways, as a college English instructor, freelance outdoor writer, bookshop proprietor, and entrepreneur in the field of tourism. “Aerie,” his debut collection, spans a quarter-century of his writing life.The Laureate Writers Series is sponsored by the Blue Heron Coffeehouse, by Shipwreckt Books, by Chapter Two Books of Winona, and by Friends of the Winona Public Library. The program begins at 7 p.m. and takes place at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse. An open mic session will follow Butterfass’s presentation.Kristin Young, on banjo, and Donna Buckbee, on nyckelharpa, will get us going by playing some old-time fiddle tunes and songs from 6:30-7 p.m. </div></body>
