The KRKO Russell & Hill 2024 Male Student Athlete of the Year is multi-sport athlete and multi-sport state champion David Brown of Lake Stevens High School. “Boogy” was a wide receiver and defensive back for the back-to-back 4A state champion Vikings football team and he won a state championship in the 110-meter hurdles for the Vikings track team. Brown had 50 receptions for 817 yards and 18 touchdowns in his senior season; it culminated in Lake Stevens capturing their second straight 4A state title with a 31-6 victory over the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles at Husky Stadium. He also notched seven interceptions and had 63 tackles. In his high school career, the Vikings played in three consecutive state title games: winning the last two. David was named an All-State Wide Receiver by the Washington State Football Coaches Association; as well as all-league and all-area honors. At the 4A State Track & Field Meet, held at Mount Tahoma High School, Boogy won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.39 (0.01 seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Eastlake). Lake Stevens finished second in the state at this year’s meet. He finished third in the 110 Hurdles in 2023. Also in 2023, Boogy joined teammates Jesse Lewis, Leif Homes and Grant Buckmiller, winning the 4A State 4x400m Relay. In his sophomore season, the Vikings won the 4A State Track & Field championship; he took 4th place in the 110 Hurdles. While maintaining a 3.63 grade point average, Brown has committed to play football and compete on the track at Central Washington University in the fall.
