GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission is reacting after a racial slur was scratched onto the body of a Gettysburg College student.

The commission says they’re aware of the incident and is asking anyone who experiences discrimination to file a complaint. The commission says it does not comment on or confirm whether any complaints have been filed in specific cases.

“As various investigations play out, I want to affirm the PHRC stands committed to making sure everyone has the right to education, employment, housing, commercial property, and public accommodation free from discrimination,” said PHRC Executive Director Chad Dion Lassiter, MSW. “I urge anyone who feels they have experienced discrimination to contact the PHRC and file a complaint. It is only through speaking up about our experiences that we can end hatred and discrimination in the Commonwealth.”

Gettysburg College says a student involved in the incident is no longer enrolled at the school after two members of the swim team were barred from team activities.

As of last week, a criminal complaint had not been filed in the case, according to Gettysburg Borough Police. The college says they are working with the victim’s family and investigating the incident.
