SEASIDE HEIGHTS - A motorist from Seaside Park is accused of leaving the scene of a crash in which a 75-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car Monday night and left unconscious in the roadway, said Ocean County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael T. Nolan, Jr.

Genell Mcinaw, 50, was charged Tuesday with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury to another person, the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

The victim, who has not been identified, suffered traumatic injuries and is in critical condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Officers from the Seaside Heights Police Department responded to the Boulevard and Dupont Avenue intersection about 9:30 p.m. Monday for a report of a body in the road, the statement said.

Criminal investigators determined that the victim had been hit by a dark-colored sedan going south on the Boulevard. The vehicle fled the area but Mcinaw was identified as the driver, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Not long after, Mcinaw was taken into custody at her Seaside Park home by detectives from the Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad of the Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where a sample of her blood was obtained pursuant to a warrant. She has since been processed into the Ocean County Jail, where she now awaits a detention hearing, the statement said.

The Crime Scene Investigations Unit of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office participated in the investigation.
