    VOTE: Volusia-Flagler Athlete of the Week for Sept. 16-21 presented by Halifax Health

    The polls are open!

    It's time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 16-21. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

    Last week, Spruce Creek cross country runner Carter Bell captured the honors, claiming 40.3% of the votes.

    The News-Journal gathers nominees via email from coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to cvinel@gannett.com. To round out the ballot, the News-Journal staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online.

    Voting will close at 5 p.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

    HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Spruce Creek wins Volusia-Flagler Tournament; Father Lopez's Sabrina Smith has low score

    Cross country

    Lowell Cummings, Deltona: The junior placed 24th, second among Volusia-Flagler runners, with a time of 17:14.8 at the Hagerty Invitational.

    Hannah Judge, University: The senior finished second with a time of 19:30 at the Hagerty Invitational.

    Golf

    Adam Kleinfelder, Flagler Palm Coast: The senior shot a 41 (5-over-par) to record the best individual score in a victory over University.

    Caleb Williams, DeLand: The freshman fired a 39 (+3) to top the leaderboard in a win over Atlantic.

    Volleyball

    Rebecca Boone, Spruce Creek: In a four-set victory over New Smyrna Beach in the Five Star Conference Tournament semifinals, the senior led her team with 15 kills and three aces while adding 20 digs and 33 serve receptions.

    Andie Litz, Seabreeze: The senior collected 10 kills and 20 assists in a 3-1 win over Taylor.

    Ella Pringle, DeLand: The senior helped the Bulldogs to a Five Star Conference title with 14 kills, 14 digs and 24 serve receptions in the tournament finals against Spruce Creek.
