    Ingredients:

1/2 of a Medium Cabbage (Purple or Green)

1/2 Teaspoon of Red Pepper Flakes (optional)

    3 Tablespoons of Salted Butter

    1/2 Teaspoon of Salt

    1/4 Teaspoon of Pepper

    Directions:

Wash and drain your cabbage and peel the first few outer leaves off. Using a kitchen knife, slice your cabbage in half and wrap the other half of cabbage in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for later use.

Take the other half of the cabbage and chop or shred the cabbage into smaller pieces.

Once you have the cabbage completely chopped, place the cabbage in a pot and cover the cabbage completely with water.

Add the 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of pepper and 3 tablespoons of salted butter. Stir the cabbage mixture.

Boil the stewed cabbage until the cabbage is tender. Once the cabbage is tender, turn the stove off and remove the pot from the heat.

Using a ladle, carefully ladle the hot stewed cabbage out the pot into a bowl along with a little bit of the juice.

Stewed cabbage goes great as a side dish along with other side dishes such as a slice of warm cornbread, a bowl full of pinto beans or a side of fried potatoes! Or maybe all of these!

My granny along with several of my other ancestors have cooked this dish for decades and it is a true southern delicacy around here!

I've eaten this most of my life. So good. Also a good vegetable dish to go with Mac and Cheese.
