The story behind the city's most exclusive private club

    By Sharon Coolidge, Cincinnati Enquirer,

Happy 150th birthday, Queen City Club .

Yes, the city’s most exclusive private club , opened by the men who built Cincinnati, has a big birthday coming up on Nov. 12. (It’s a Scorpio like me.)

I wanted to take a peek inside, but it and the people who run it seem shy. Nobody returned my calls earlier this summer. (Private really means private, I suppose.)

Still, I delved into its history, via old Enquirer stories, a tiny tome at the public library that’s so rare I could only view it in a special room , and my memory from the time or two I’ve been invited there as a guest. (Trust me, it’s a great place to chat if you don’t want to be seen.)

    Here’s what I learned .

What else you need to know Wednesday, Sept. 25

🌧️ Weather: High of 78 . Mostly cloudy with a shower in spots.

Jonathan India on the Reds' future : 'They need to make moves. I want to win.'

🚧 Lytle Tunnel to temporarily close : Access to and from downtown will be limited this week.

🍽️ Former rock star buys local Cajun restaurant . 'I didn't want it to become a Walgreens.'

✔️ Vote: Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky high school athlete of the week .
