Inasmuch was a day of ecumenical action that took members of local churches out into the community to help any way they could.Some volunteers served free hot dog lunches at the Ottawa County Family Advocacy Center (FAC). Some painted doors at FAC. Some sang with residents at the Chalet at the Vineyard on Catawba. Some cleaned headstones at Riverview Cemetery. Some did repairs at the home of a senior. Some created thank you cards for Magruder Hospital nurses.The event was an opportunity for local residents to use their unique gifts to help others in their community.“We hit different areas and used different skills,” said Pastor Bobbie Bella of Firelands Presbyterian Church. “If you can’t swing a hammer, you can write a thank you note or you can sing or you can give away hot dogs.”The projects and the impact were spread across the county.“A few volunteers went all the way out to Rocky Ridge to the home of a great-grandmother raising her nine-year-old grandson. They replaced a storm door and did little repairs around her house,” Bella said.Bella said she heard of the Inasmuch program when she was pastoring a church in Cincinnati. It was inspired by the Bible verse, Matthew 25:40, in which Christ explains that when his followers do kind things for others, they are also doing those things for him.<img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=1KMgYd_0viTr09p00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=1KMgYd_0viTr09p00" width="1000" height="716" >“Our Inasmuch mission day is an idea borrowed from Rev. David Crocker who initiated the ministry in Fayetteville, North Carolina,” Bella said. “In Port Clinton, it is a ministry of the Port Clinton Ministerial Association, which is open to all area congregations. We added the ecumenical piece to our mission day.”FAC Executive Director Connie Roe was among the volunteers who helped serve free lunches to the community.“We had some families come and get hot dogs, and that was fun,” Roe said. “It’s all worth it. We’re just planting seeds.”Those seeds sprouted kindness before the day was over.“The sweetest part of the day was, a girl came here and had a hot dog, and then she went home and baked brownies and brought them to us,” Bella said. “I was touched.”</div></body>
