Governor Gavin Newsom today signed a bipartisan legislative package aimed at reinforcing California’s gun laws to prevent mass violence and reduce gun-related deaths. The new laws introduce measures to protect children, prevent hate crimes, and safeguard victims of domestic abuse.

“California won’t wait for the next mass shooting. We’re leading the way to prevent gun violence,” said Newsom, highlighting the state’s gun laws, which have resulted in a 43% lower gun death rate compared to the national average.

Key provisions include stricter gun storage rules, enhanced red flag laws, and more tools to keep firearms out of dangerous hands. California continues to rank #1 in gun safety, with youth firearm homicide rates significantly lower than the rest of the U.S.
