They beat maroon 12-9 in the postseason tournament final Sept. 16 on field 2 in Brahan Spring Park. Green was the top seed after winning the regular season title while maroon was seeded second of the seven teams.“Y’all play us tough every time,” green’s manager Billy Davis told the runners-up after the final.In his 23rd year in the league, this is Davis’ second championship; his first was in 2004.“It was on defense, always,” he said of the green win. “This team can play some defense. They played as a team, and that’s the way we’ve been all year. This team pulled together. They supported every player up and down the lineup.”Drew Hutchison, the shortstop batting third, went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double, four runs batted in and three runs scored for green (29-10).“It was a team effort, just like it always is,” Hutchison, 59, of Decatur, said.This is Hutchison’s first year in the league. “Had the best coach out here,” he said.Gary Wilkison had three hits with a double. Doug Hemphill, Mike Hoy, Larry Guthrie and Mike Jackson had two hits apiece. Dee Benson hit a two-run triple. Hoy pitched all seven innings for the win.Scott Landers went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, a two-run triple, a double, five RBIs and two runs scored for maroon (25-15). David Koch hit a two-run homer. David Looper, Randy Bastin, Koch, Chris Maggio and Bill Santi had two hits apiece. Maggio, the manager, took the loss. Maroon was last year’s champion.“It was a good defensive game,” Maggio said. “We never really got started hitting.”</div></body>
