    12 runners crack top 10

    PITTSBURG — Four Hopkins County schools — Sulphur Springs, Como-Pickton, Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff — competed in the Brookshire’s Challenge cross country meet Thursday, Sept. 19 at Bob Sandlin State Park, which was hosted by Saltillo ISD. Each school had strong performances, with 12 runners placing in the top-10, and 14 more cracking the top-25 in their respective races.

    SULPHUR SPRINGS

    Both the Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Wildcats took home first place in their respective races.

    In the girls race, Edith Martinez earned an individual gold medal, placing first with a time of 12:31. Right behind her was Abbey Williams, who placed second and earned an individual silver medal with a time of 12:51.

    Also placing in the top-20 were Abbey Williams, 11th with a time of 14:08; and Natalie Cruz, 20th with a time of 14:37.

    Rounding out the girls results were Isabella Mejia, 29th with a time of 15:06; Consuelo Martinez, 30th with a time of 15:11; and Alexa Gonzalez, 56th with a time of 16:38.

    On the boys side, Mateo Perez took top honors, placing third and earning a bronze medal with a time of 18:44. Jaydon Conner was right behind, placing fourth with a time of 19:27.

    Gabe Mayo also placed in the top-10, placing sixth with a time of 19:45.

    Rounding out the boys results were Alonso Patino, 14th with a time of 21:19; Kannon Gibson, 16th with a time of 21:22; and Jacob Noe, 17th with a time of 21:29.

    COMO-PICKTON

    The Como-Pickton Eagles had two runners, while the Lady Eagles finished in seventh place as a team.

    In the boys race, Cade Childress placed eighth with a time of 20:39. Ben Brewer also represented the Eagles, placing 58th with a time of 29:30.

    On the girls side, Bianca Guerrero was the highest- placing Lady Eagle, coming in fifth place with a time of 13:57. Coming in second on the team was Janey Stokley, who placed 17th with a time of 14:24.

    Rounding out the girls results was Jaz Gutierrez, 34th with a time of 15:16; Christina Neal, 64th with a time of 17:03; Angeles Hernandez, 71st with a time of 19:06; and Kaylee Lavender, 73rd with a time of 21:13.

    SALTILLO

    The Saltillo Lions placed fourth as a team, while the Lady Lions came in sixth.

    On the boys side, Adrian Don Juan took top honors, placing fifth with a time of 19:44. Dakoda Womack also cracked the top-10, placing 10th with a time of 20:52.

    Rounding out the boys results were Tobin Potter, 20th with a time of 22:34; Jonas Beadle, 23rd with a time of 22:55; Lucas Womack, 43rd with a time of 26:01; Ethan Sexton, 44th with a time of 26:02.01; and Colby Walker, 45th with a time of 26:02.66.

    In the girls race, Yisset Moreno was the highest- placing Lady Lion, placing seventh with a time of 14:02. Jaelynn Miller was second on the team, placing 13th with a time of 14:11.

    Rounding out the girls results were Kaycen Burkett, 41st with a time of 15:45; Eden Godwin, 43rd with a time of 15:51; Amberley White, 44th with a time of 15:52; and Kenzi Pipkin, 45th with a time of 15:53.

    SULPHUR BLUFF

    The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears finished in second place as a team, while the Bears placed seventh.

    In the girls race, Zaylee Peyton led the way, placing fourth with a time of 13:32. Natalie Carrell also placed in the top-10, placing 10th with a time of 14:06.

    Rounding out the girls results were Taylor Johnson, 21st with a time of 14:40; Ana Servin, 22nd with a time of 14:41; Vada Kendall, 24th with a time of 14:47; Kialey Johnson, 25th with a time of 15:01; Emma Carr, 33rd with a time of 15:05; and Macy Stanley, 63rd with a time of 17:01.

    On the boys side, Denton Klemptner was the highest-placing Bear, placing 31st with a time of 23:48. Second on the team was Evan Dugnolle, who placed 41st with a time of 25:40.

    Rounding out the boys results were Maddox Peyton, 48th with a time of 26:35; Trace Caldwell, 51st with a time of 27:56; and Dylan Byrd, 53rd with a time of 28:12.
