Grubworms are emerging in a fight for survival

A grubworm is another name for a juvenile beetle that spends its life underground as a larve. Adults of the species turn into Junebugs. Overwatering your garden or lawn may saturate the earth to the point these insects are forced to the surface.

The excess water interferes with obtaining oxygen, so the grubworms emerge from the surface to breathe. This is now happening in the Commonwealth due to recent heavy rainfall.

WSET reports that Virginia viewers have been notifying them of grubworms above ground. They do not harm humans but can wreak havoc on lawns and gardens.

My dogs bring them into the house for a snack. They have very shiny coats now.
