Woman in critical condition after shooting outside shelter in Homewood South

A woman was shot in Homewood South Wednesday morning.

Pittsburgh police said emergency crews were called to the 7000 block of Kelly Street at around 7:45 a.m. for a reported shooting.

Officers found a woman who had been shot in the courtyard outside of a women’s shelter. First responders say the woman was shot in the face. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

There are still a lot of questions on who the shooter is.

“Women, children, everything, they are supposed to be safe. It’s crazy. It’s so sad about her,” said a person who lives nearby.

A trauma response team was at the shelter Wednesday morning and there to help residents who were upset.

The shelter’s board executive said they do not have a comment at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
