Chelsea gets revenge after Liverpool transfer as key FSG figure snapped up

Chelsea's majority shareholder, Clearlake Capital, has snapped up a key executive from Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

David Beeston, who previously served as co-head of FSG's sports marketing firm Fenway Sports Management, has been appointed managing director of Clearlake's O.P.S. group.

Despite not being heavily involved with Liverpool during his time at FSG, Beeston's new role will see him dedicating 'a significant amount of his time to Chelsea ', according to City A.M .

Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali expressed his pride in the team they've built and welcomed Beeston among several new hires. "We welcome our new team members and congratulate our long-tenured senior executives on their well-deserved promotions.", reports the Mirror .

Eghbali, who is understood to be the most influential figure at Stamford Bridge, appears to be at odds with fellow Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly. With Clearlake holding a 61.5 percent stake in the club and Boehly owning a minority 12.8 percent stake, their relationship is reportedly beyond repair.

Both parties are now considering their options over the future of Chelsea.

The tug-of-war over ownership continues to cast a shadow over the club, with both parties reportedly keen on buying each other out. Chelsea's Enzo Maresca addressed the uncertainty, admitting, "I don't know if something is going to happen, to be honest.

"I don't have an idea. The only thing I can say is that in terms of the football side, we are in the right direction and the team is improving. I think the players are professional enough to understand these kinds of things, they are things we cannot control."

He emphasized the squad's focus: "The main focus for me is exactly the main focus for the players, on the pitch, we need to do the things to improve and this is the main target for them, for me and for all of us."

Liverpool.com says: A spot of revenge for Chelsea after Liverpool completed a major coup with the signing of youngster Rio Ngumoha earlier this month . What sort of role Beeston will play at Stamford Bridge remains to be seen given the uncertainty behind the scenes, but FSG losing a key figure to one of the Reds' biggest rivals will come as a major blow to Liverpool's owners.
