The Waunakee varsity boys soccer team made the Watertown defense work hard Tuesday night.

The Warriors peppered the Gosling goalkeeper for 14 shots on goal, but it wasn’t enough in a 3-1 Waunakee road loss.

Watertown scored in the first half on a Jack Garbelman goal. Waunakee answered early in the second half. Aiden Turner’s corner kick glanced off of Aden Waugh to an awaiting Louis Zimbric. Zimbric pounded it home to tie the game at one. But, things got “unlucky” for Waunakee according to head coach Mike Baldwin. On a Watertown free kick, the ball hit one of the Waunakee players nearly 15 yards out from the front of the goal, but the deflection found the net for a 2-1 Watertown lead.

“This has been our year in a nutshell so far”, said Baldwin.

A few minutes later, Watertown’s Damien Ortega skipped a hard shot which took a funny bounce into the goal for the final Gosling tally.

Waunakee falls to 2-6-2. The Warriors have scored 5 goals this season. Coach Baldwin admits his boys are frustrated on offense right now, “We just have to get the ball in the back of the net, which just happens to be the hardest part of the game. Their luck has to change eventually.”

Waunakee will travel to 9th ranked Oregon on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
