Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick Want Children Before Marriage

All of our SURvers are growing up! One of the last to settle down at this point is Kristen Doute . But after almost 2 years together, Luke Broderick proposed to Kristen while filming their hit series The Valley .

Kristen isn’t known for being conventional and her timeline for starting a family will be no different. While most couples tend to get married as the next step after getting engaged, Kristen and Luke are already talking about kids.

Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick are on the “baby train”

On an episode of their podcast Balancing Act, Kristen revealed that Luke wants to have kids first.

“After we got engaged , Luke, you basically straight up were like, ‘We’re not going to plan a wedding until after babies,’” Kristen explained. “I feel like we are on the baby train.”

Being on the “baby train” means that the couple wants to focus on family first. “Otherwise we have to take a break from trying for babies to plan a wedding. I can’t do both. I would prefer not to do both,” Kristen added.

Luke agreed. “With our timeline , we should have a baby first and then start planning after that,” he said. “I know that ladies like to be feeling really good in their wedding dress. After you have a baby, we will start planning for a year after that.”

During the episode, the two also confirmed that Kristen has been taking fertility treatments. Which is not an easy road after experiencing pregnancy loss.

In November of last year, Kristen revealed that she had a “nonviable pregnancy .”

“I have so much grace for all of my friends and other ladies out there that are going through your fertility journey — whatever that looks like. The thing that I learned that was super valuable — that I learned the hard way — is the actual definition of infertility,” Kristen shared. “Infertility occurs when a couple is unable to conceive after a year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. [That doesn’t apply to us.] It has not been a year yet.”
