This means that Trulieve, which has been legally selling recreational cannabis since August 6, will continue to do so.</p><p>A Trulieve representative highlighted the positive feedback from new customers, emphasizing the company’s dedication to customer service and maintaining a safe, clean, friendly environment. Currently, Trulieve operates the sole cannabis dispensary in Beavercreek, as the city has implemented a ban on new medical and recreational dispensaries, allowing Trulieve to continue due to its prior medical license. This positive impact on the community is a source of reassurance and optimism for many residents.</p><p>Councilmembers Glen Duerr, Tiffany Schwartz, and Joanna Garcia supported advancing the legislation to a second reading, demonstrating the council’s commitment to transparency and open debate. At the same time, Charles Curran, David Litteral, Vice Mayor Pete Bales, and Mayor Don Adams opposed it.</p><p>Local authorities can refuse adult-use dispensaries within 120 days of issuing a license. Trulieve received theirs on June 21. Had the ordinance passed, Trulieve could still have campaigned for a public vote in November 2025 by gathering 100 signatures for the Board of Elections.</p><p>Duerr noted the community’s desire for control over significant decisions, emphasizing the close vote margin in the 2023 approval of Issue 2, where Beavercreek locals narrowly opposed it by 60 votes out of 30,000. This underlines the importance of community involvement in local governance. Concerns about home rule rights and potential increased traffic in residential zones were also mentioned. However, some pointed out that the police reported no issues with the dispensary, and local interactions indicated the business was well-regarded.</p><p>Councilmember Litteral expressed openness to community feedback, noting that most residents seemed indifferent. Vice Mayor Bales argued against the ordinance, calling it a waste of resources, as Trulieve has proven to be a positive presence in the community.
