Here are a few observations from the 6-6 tie in six innings.Uniform Watch: The Red Raiders new black Adidas caps aren’t much different than the hats that Tech had been wearing from Under Armour. However, one slight change is that the Adidas logo on the side of the hat is red. I’m not sure why, but it really pops off the black hat and looks great.Pitching: The hitters were definitely ahead of the pitchers on this day, but the two starters, SO RHP Mac Heuer and SR RHP Jack Cebert (transfer USF) were solid in their 2 innings of work. The Red Raiders also employed on the mound: SO RHP Lucas Pirko (transfer Cal Baptist), FR RHP Jackson Burns (Aledo), FR RHP Will Jordan (Weatherford), SO RHP Steven Sepulveda (transfer Baylor). Each of them pitched two innings.Shortstop: The two shortstops in the game were T.J. Pompey and Freshman Coleman Ryan from Tomball. Pompey looks thicker and stronger than a year ago and hit the ball hard 4 times including a double on the first pitch of the game. Ryan is a much smaller player (6-0, 156) but still picked up a couple of hits in his 3 ABs. I know that this coaching staff likes to try different players in different positions in the Fall, so there is no guarantee that those are your top 2 shortstops. However, I will be surprised if Pompey is not back at the SS position this year.2nd Base: Junior returner Tracer Lopez and Junior transfer (Odessa College) Antonelli Savattere both made great plays defensively. Lopez made a diving stop up the middle to start a double play, while Savattere made a plus-plus play behind the bag to rob Davis Rivers of an RBI in the 1st inning. Lopez also hit one of the two home runs in the game with an opposite field blast in his first AB. Dylan Maxey had a 2-run bomb in the 6th for the other homer.1st look: Newcomer Logan Hughes (SO transfer Stetson) looked good in his first action as a Red Raider. Hughes, who bats from the left side and played left field, had a double in his 3 ABs and surely will factor into the Red Raiders corner OF positions. Also, Peyton Shulze (transfer Cal) was very vocal playing 1B. Hopefully, the Senior can provide some leadership for this year’s team. That was something that it felt like was missing from the 2024 squad.Old face, new place: The two right fielders in the contest were JR Damian Bravo and SR Hudson Parker. Bravo played primarily LF and some CF last year. Parker, in 2024 was listed as a C/RHP but this year only as a catcher. However, with 4 of them on the roster, the Rowlett native may need to show an ability to play elsewhere to get at bats. Both guys handled each of their opportunities in RF and had 2 hits at the plate.</div></body>
