BELLE, W.Va. -- Historical tours, ghost stories and a Children’s Pioneer Christmas.

Belle’s Samuel Shrewsbury Mansion – commonly known as the Old Stone House – has something for almost everyone in the coming months.

Beginning this weekend, the historic home just off U.S. Route 60 in Belle will host three events to round out its 2024 season.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, volunteers will offer guided tours of the structure, built around 1810 by wealthy Kanawha Valley salt mogul Samuel Shrewsbury Sr.

Saturday’s tours cost $3 for children and seniors, and $4 for adults.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the museum will host “Legends from the Past,” an evening filled with West Virginia folklore and ghost stories on the Old Stone House property grounds.

“This is not a haunting or scary event, but rather a combination of heritage, folklore and stories of the ghosts of West Virginia,” organizers said in an event announcement.

"Legends from the Past" takes place from 5-7 p.m. and costs $5 per adult. Up to two children per family may attend free; an extra $1 per each additional child is requested for larger families.

Finally, on Saturday, Dec. 14, the home will host a free Children’s Pioneer Christmas from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a camera to take photos of their children with Santa.

Proceeds from September and October's events will benefit the Belle Historical Restoration Society’s effort to maintain the historic structure, organizers said

More information on these and other Old Stone House events is available on Facebook.
