The second Capitol - South conference volleyball meeting of the season between Marshall and Belleville looked very similar to the first. The Cardinals won the first edition at home in four sets. The Wildcats had the benefit of home court advantage in the rematch on Tuesday, Sept. 24, but Marshall still prevailed by the exact same means.

The visiting Cardinals cruised in the first set 25-18, only for the host Wildcats to rebound with a hard-fought 28-26 win in the second. Marshall responded with force by winning the third set 25-9 and took the fourth set 25-20 for the 3-1 win.

It was a strong day for Marshall senior outside hitter Kierstin Hoel, who hammered home 23 kills. Sophomore setter Ava Neuberger and junior libero Kennedy Weisensel tied for the team high in aces with four each. Neuberger would also lead the team in assists with 54 while Weisensel was tops in digs with 23. Sophomore outside hitter Carly Checky also added 16 digs while sophomore outside hitter Summer Hellenbrand delivered 13 additional kills.

With the win, Marshall maintains its tie with Cambridge atop the Capitol - South conference standings at 5-1. With an overall record of 13-6, Marshall is listed in the "honorable mention" section of the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association (WVCA) Division 3 state rankings for the fourth consecutive week.

Up next, the Cardinals will take a brief break from conference play by participating in an invitational at Abundant Life Christian on Saturday, Sept. 28. They'll dive back into Capitol - South action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 by hosting New Glarus.
