While the Connecticut Sun look to advance out of the first round of the WNBA playoffs, currently leading Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever 1-0 in a best-of-three series, the league released an announcement on Sun guard DiJonai Carrington.

Carrington, who's been with the Sun since 2021, has been awarded the league's 2024 Most Improved Player award.

The WNBA announced the news on Carrington with a statement, "From rising star to unstoppable force."

The two-way star significantly increased her season totals from last season. In 2023, Carrington averaged 8.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 1.3 assists per game.

Fast forward to the 2024 season, Carrington ended the campaign averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.6 assists per game.

In 2024, Carrington posted a career-high in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, field goals, three-pointers and free throws made.

While playing alongside a few other league stars like Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner, Carrington helped the Sun to a 28-12 record and secure the No. 3 seed in the WNBA playoffs.

In Game 1 against the Fever, Carrington recorded 14 points, five rebounds and three assists while shooting 1-of-1 from three-point range and 6-of-12 from the field.

Carrington showcased her defensive prowess in Game 1, holding Clark, one of the most prolific scorers in the WNBA, to 11 points. The rookie shot 2-of-13 from three and 4-of-17 from the field.

Bonner and Carrington had the defensive assignment on Clark for much of the game and were certainly successful in slowing down her offensive abilities.

The Sun will look to close out the series on Wednesday, welcoming Clark and the Fever back to Connecticut in what will be an elimination game for Indiana.

I think all this negativity and hate started on the 2024 WNBA draft night. If, Diana Taurasi, had been more welcoming to Caitlin Clark coming into the league. I can’t imagine any of this crap happening. Not the bullying and deliberate hard fouls towards her on the court. Or the animosity between players, the allegations of Indiana Fever fans being disrespectful, verbally attacking players and generating AI images and sending them to players families. And worse, insulting the players as they’re playing in the game. In today’s world, words are extremely hurtful and damaging, and it played out in the 2024 season of the WNBA.
