The Montgomery County Council unanimously confirmed McBain’s appointment on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.Assistant Chief McBain has dedicated 31 years of service to the Montgomery County Police Department, steadily rising through the ranks. Throughout his career, McBain has held key leadership positions, including Deputy Director of the Traffic Division and Deputy Director of the Special Investigations Division. In January 2020, he was promoted to Director of the Traffic Division, and by March 2021, he was appointed Commander of the 3rd District.During his time in the 3rd District, McBain established the Downtown Silver Spring Task Force and prioritized supporting the unhoused community by assigning a Crisis Intervention Officer. As District Commander, McBain deployed technology including cameras and automated systems, to assist officers in effectively combating crime.He also organized several community events aimed at strengthening relationships between the police department and the community it serves.Assistant Chief McBain has a Bachelor of Science degree in criminology from the University of Maryland University College, and an Associate’s degree in criminal justice from Montgomery College.
