    COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A previous Columbia mayoral candidate has announced her bid for the April election.

Tanya Heath announced in a press release that was sent on Tuesday evening that she plans on running for mayor. Heath ran for mayor in 2022 and finished in fourth place with 553 votes. Mayor Barabara Buffaloe won with 8,529 votes, Randy Minchew took second place with 7,729 votes and David Seamon had 2,930.

Election packets for potential candidates can be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office. The packet includes the petition form and other documents that will need to be completed as part of the filing process, according to the city’s website .

Heath wrote in her release that her campaign is focused on crime reduction, economic development and opportunities, and financial transparency. She cited her 30 years of experience in advertising and marketing.

“With crime reduction, we all have a part to play,” Heath is quoted in the release. “We need to make sure our police have what they need to do their job including making sure they have a full retirement. We need to make sure that our neighbors are looking out for each and then we also need to look for ways to increase economic opportunities and mentorship to guide people towards their better lives regardless of anyone’s circumstances.”

Previous reporting indicates that Heath is a graduate of Hickman High School and the University of Missouri.

The April election will also include the Wards 3 and 4 council seats.
