It’s a month-long celebration of creativity, community spirit, and fall fun.While downtown, enjoy businesses’ fall displays. Strike a pose to take a “selfie” with your favorite scarecrows to capture those memories! Cast your vote for the "People’s Choice" and see which scarecrow steals the show! Moreover, please shop and eat local when downtown, checking out both familiar and new establishments in the downtown district.If you’re a business, you’re feeling particularly crafty, you’re in the Halloween spirit, and you want to promote your business, please visit AOT’s Facebook page to enter your very own scarecrow into the competition and vie for a trophy as well as recognition (both online and in the Altavista Journal) following the conclusion of the event on November 1st.How to Participate:1. Register Your Scarecrow: For the complete set of rules, more details, or to register your business and scarecrow online, please visit Altavista On Track’s Facebook page, or you can call David Green at (434) 369-4979 to meet and sign up on paper to register your scarecrow. Entry deadline: October 1st2. Stroll &amp; Vote: Explore the downtown district with your Scarecrow Stroll, and vote for your favorite display throughout the month. Voting will start at AOT’s Rivertown Fest on Saturday, October 5th. After that, you must go to the following places to vote on your favorite scarecrow: Staunton River Memorial Library, Town Hall, or Main Street Café &amp; Shoppes. Voting must be completed by 4 p.m. on November 1st.3. Enjoy the Fall Festivities: Take in the colorful, cozy ambiance of downtown Altavista all month long!Let’s Make This a Fall to Remember!Whether you're very young or young at heart, the Scarecrow Stroll promises to be a "spook-tacular" time! Downtown: where community, creativity, local pride, and fall magic unite‘2024 Scarecrow Stroll Rules and Registration:• Live or animated components shall not be permitted and will be removed from consideration.• Scarecrows shall remain affixed and on-site between October 1 and October 31. (Also - October 5th is the day of our AOT Rivertown Fest! You are invited to all the fun!)• Scarecrows should be built to withstand the elements (wind, rain, sun).• No weaponry (real or pretend) shall be permitted and will be immediately removed fromconsideration.• No flammable, electrical or battery-operated items can be used including, but not limited totiki torches, gas-powered generators, lighting, etc.• No violent, bloody, scary, gruesome, or offensive entries will be permitted.• Altavista On Track is not responsible for anything damaged, lost, or stolen.• Altavista On Track reserves the right to remove from consideration any scarecrow orscarecrow elements that do not meet these standards or deem inappropriate.
