PlayStation State of Play September 2024 unveils new games, expansions, DLCs, remakes

Playstation's September State of Play is the definition of bitter sweet.

Playstation stans were all ready aware that Sony wasn't releasing any new first-party games this year, but the announcements of the ones to come just made things worse. The games to come look amazing, but we know by know that an announcement trailer means the title still has a few years left in development. Sadly, nothing came up about DLC content for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which is confusing because it came out about a year ago.

Nevertheless, the platform also unveiled the free Playstation Plus games for October , which will make next month extra spooky. Besides new game announcements and the aforementioned game catalog update, we got some updates for long-awaited games and a very surprising reveal for a game that's barely a month old .

Here's the new games, expansions, DLCs and remakes announced during September's State of Play

Ghost of Tsushima 2 Announced as Ghost of Yotei

Probably the biggest showstopper of the event was the announcement of Ghost of Yotei—the long-awaited sequel to 2020's Ghost of Tsushima. The game leaves our favorite samurai Jin Sakai for a new protagonist: Atsu.

The game is projected to release in 2025 but that is merely a window and is subject to change. Ghost of Tsushima is the prime example of what makes Playstation exclusives great: unique gameplay mechanics wrapped into a compelling story with loads of blood and gore you just can't find anywhere else. Sucker Punch Productions created a masterpiece in 2020 now let's see whether they can work the same magic.

Additionally, the chief executive at Sony is said the franchise may be ready to storm Hollywood, bringing movies, TV shows and more.

    Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PS5. The post-post apocalyptic world game quickly became a favorite among players as the story was so compelling it made you actually care about the protagonist as if she were real. Similar to to other remaster's this year, owners can upgrade to PS5 for about $10, which is a pretty good deal if you haven't played in a while.

I am in no way knocking this Playstation exclusive as it is one of the platform's most creative ever, but no one asked for this. Those who wouldn't mind jumping back into it on Oct. 31, when it releases will be treated to 10 hours of re-recorded dialogue in addition to visual enhancements

    Monster Hunter Wilds Release Date

Monster Hunter Wilds is slated for launch February 28, 2025. This is the first installment of the Monster Hunter series that will be exclusively on next-gen consoles, meaning every aspect of the upgraded hardware will be utilized to enhance the gamer experience. The game will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The new trailer shows a plethora of new monsters including over-grown-squirrel-looking beasts and new flying types.

PC players be warned as the game is a hefty download, requiring 140GB of SSD storage to run.

Astro Bot DLC Announced for Fall 2024

Astro Bot, which released earlier in September, is all ready getting a DLC, will this strengthen it chances at Game of the Year? The game did get a great 9 out of 10 review on IGN and reached "must play" status on metacritic. The additional content is free and will include five new online speedrun levels along with 10 new bots to rescue.

Hopefully, they will be more characters from Playstation's long catalog of exclusives.

    The Midnight Walk Announced

The games comes from the creators of Lost in Random so picture a Little Nightmares-type game that doesn't particular terrify you but may have some creepy moments. However, this is just an announcement with no trailer and no release window, meaning it's coming out no time soon.

It's will release to the PS5 and PS VR 2.

Alan Wake II: Lake House Expansion Revealed

Alan Wake II is getting an expansion next month and it looks creepy. There is no definite release date, but sources say it is slated for October 2024. Given the expansion was announced in a reveal trailer, we might get it closer to Halloween.

The game is definitely an anomaly as it focuses more on story and problem-solving rather than game mechanics. A piece of advice if you wish to try this game: don't buy it if you're the type of gamer who likes to turn their brain off and hack/slash.

The game requires brain power and critical thinking. It's fun in it's own right but combat is very limited.

PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for October 2024 Announced

This may be the best month to be a Playstation Plus subscriber this year. The platform is giving us WWE2k 24 and the Dead Space remake in the spirit of October. The latter is probably the crown jewel of this month because Dead Space is and will always be one of the top horror games of our time. The gut-wrenching feeling you get when a four-legged alien lunges at you just can't be matched by any other title.

WWE2k 24 is good too if you're into wrestling games, which have gotten unbelievably realistic over the past decade or so.
