The City Planning Commission approved a rezoning proposal that would make housing development easier

New York City — On Wednesday, Mayor Adams’s plan to ease New York City’s housing shortage by making way for more than 100,000 new homes cleared the City Planning Commission.

Next up is a much tougher hurdle: a showdown between the administration and the City Council.

For months now, the mayor has been pushing for the city to think outside the box to increase housing-development opportunities. He's gone so far as to even suggest garages can be converted into apartments.

Called "A Little More Housing in Every Neighborhood," the mayor's slogan hopes to solve the city's problem with housing shortages.

“The only way to solve this crisis is to build more,” Mr. Adams said in a statement. “Now, it is time for the City Council to meet the moment.”
