Known for its audio products, RØDE has changed the game by announcing the new RØDECaster Video, offering content creators a new way to work with video.

Building on the success of the original RØDECaster Pro, which revolutionized the podcasting landscape and is used by us at CGMagazine for podcasts and other audio projects, the RØDECaster Video brings the same level of innovation to video production. It offers a comprehensive and intuitive solution for content creators, video podcasters, live streamers, and broadcasters.

The RØDECaster Video offers an exciting range of features, bringing the same level of comprehensive tools typically found in their audio products. At its core is a high-performance octa-core CPU with a next-generation video engine, allowing for an innovative scene-based architecture that simplifies the creation, configuration, and switching between complex multi-source layouts.

With four HDMI inputs and two flexible USB-C inputs, creators can connect and switch between six video sources simultaneously, including USB webcams. This kind of hardware is typically only found in production studios, but RØDE has managed to scale it down for use by content creators and professionals at home or in smaller offices.

As one would expect from RØDE, the RØDECaster Video is equally impressive when it comes to audio. It features two studio-grade Neutrik combo jacks with ultra-low-noise, high-gain Revolution Preamps for capturing pristine audio from XLR microphones, instruments, and other audio equipment. Additionally, it has dual internal wireless receivers for connecting RØDE Series IV wireless microphones, such as the Wireless PRO , Wireless ME, and Wireless GO II .

The device also incorporates powerful APHEX audio processing , including an EQ, compressor, noise gate, high-pass filter, de-esser, and the legendary Aural Exciter, Big Bottom , and Compellor effects. An automatic green screen or blue screen feature allows for effortless background replacement and the use of video sources in scenes.

Having studied video and working with it daily at CGMagazine, I can not help but feel excited by what the new hardware offers. The RØDECaster Video can even stream directly to major platforms via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB while simultaneously recording to external USB storage, including multitrack and isolated (ISO) recordings for flexible post-editing.

Its versatility is enhanced by features like remote control, user-assignable graphics and media, custom scene building, audio mixing and effects, and advanced configuration options via the RØDE Central companion software, making it ideal for creators ranging from solo streamers to large-scale video producers. These are features I would have loved to see in competing hardware, but the fact RØDE has managed to fit everything in one unit is truly impressive.

Designed for ease of use, the interface includes large buttons for switching video sources and scenes, managing transitions, and accessing chromakey control, layouts, and media. The 2-inch touchscreen and versatile encoder provide quick navigation of settings, while the innovative “Inspect” feature allows for real-time input and scene configuration with a single button press.

Now, don’t get too excited—while it’s priced lower than some professional gear on the market, the RØDECaster Video still isn’t cheap. Launching at US$1,199 exclusively at B&H, it’s not aimed at beginner creators but remains a valuable tool for many streamers and content creators. Global shipping is scheduled to begin in October.

RØDE CEO Damien Wilson expressed his excitement about the launch, stating, “With the RØDECaster Video, we are doing the same for video production. With its intuitive interface, scene-based architecture, and seamless combination of professional video and audio in one compact device, it delivers unprecedented power and versatility to the next generation of content creators. The RØDECaster Video marks a huge step in the evolution of RØDE, and a massive milestone for creator technology.”

The RØDECaster Video appears to be an exciting addition to the world of video production, offering content creators a powerful, versatile, and user-friendly all-in-one solution. If its features and quality match RØDE’s past innovations, I know all the content creators at CGMagazine would be eager to see how it can fit into our pipeline. We hope to have more details about the new RØDECaster Video closer to launch.
