In this Class B girl’s soccer matchup both teams had the opportunity to win their second game of the season. The Caribou Vikings at 1-4, Presque Isle Wildcats 1-3. The Vikings with the home field advantage and a full crowd. It was so cold you could see every breath they took. It was a battle between defenders not much offense throughout this game. But when there was it was the Wildcats pushing the pace. The Vikings had some chances on corners but through the whole game they couldn’t get one in the net. Carrlyn Buck scored for Presque Isle in the second half which led to the Lady Wildcats second win in a row. They started the season 0-3 but are now clawing back vying for a playoff position.The State Golf Tournament is just a couple of weeks away and for the first time an Aroostook League girls qualifier was held in the County Any girls who broke 100 would advance to the States. The qualifier was held at Houlton Country Club. Houlton’s Presley Goodwin with the long putt on six just comes up short. She would par the hole. Fort Fairfield Isabelle Winters on the same hole and she would drain the putt. Winters has already qualified for the States with her score at Fort Kent last week. Caribou’s Carly Pickard on the 7th hole and she would drain the long putt for a bogey. Presley Goodwin of Houlton shot a 48 on the back and qualified for the States after shooting the target number of 100. Haley McGuire of Houlton was second and Carly Pickard of Caribou ended up third.The Caribou Vikings hosted a regular season golf match with Presque Isle and Bangor today. Matt Pelletier off the first tees coming off of a tie on his career low score. It’s been a dry few weeks at Caribou Country Club, the players were encouraged to adapt to that. Presque Isle and Caribou tied at 165. Normally, they just take the top four scores. They went to the fifth to decide the winner which was Lane Carmichael with a 45, Nic Plourde of Caribou with a 46. Logan Caron had the low Presque Isle score at 40. Matt Pelletier and Ty Hunter of Caribou shot a 39.The University of Maine Presque Isle soccer teams have spent quite a bit of time on the home field in the first three weeks of the season. Today, the Owls hosted the University of Maine Farmington Beavers. Kaleb Colman of UMF with the corner kick and he would deliver it into the area and William Dowse heads it into the net for the first goal for the visitors. Farmington had several other great opportunities to score in the first 45 minutes. Samuel Paladino keeps it out of the net. The Beavers scored two goals in each half as they pick up the 4-0 win over the Owls.The women’s teams were also in the field. The Owls Madelyn Morrow showing off her speed dribbling up the wing eight minutes into the game and firing the shot for the goal. That was the only goal of the first half, Mia Voisine making some big saves in the first half for the Owls as they take a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half Jenna Lee scored for the Beavers to tie the game at one and that is how the game ended in a one all tie.
