Connecticut Sun star DiJonai Carrington received some big news ahead of their Game 2 showdown against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night. This is after the 5-foot-11 guard/forward was named the 2024 Kia WNBA Most Improved Player winner.

Carrington, who came in second in the Sixth Woman of the Year last season, further improved her numbers as a starter in 2024. She averaged 12.7 points , 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals this season, while also helping the Sun secure the No. 3 seed entering the WNBA playoffs.

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was one of the first to congratulate Carrington after the Connecticut guard took to X (formerly Twitter) to flex her MIP win. For her part, Reese sent a four-word message to Carrington amid this major development.

"so proud of youšŸ’‹" Reese wrote.

It is worth noting that Carrington has been in some hot water of late after an incident involving Caitlin Clark in the Sun's Game 1 win over the Fever. At one point in the contest, Clark got poked in the eye as Carrington was attempting to make a defensive play.

While both Carrington and Clark have already played down the controversial incident , more than a few fans have been arguing that there was some intent on the part of the Sun star.

Reese's rivalry with Clark has been well-documented, too, which is why some supporters could not help but call the Sky forward out for supposedly supporting Carrington's actions against Clark.

"Dirty players recognize one another," a comment read.

"next time say what you really mean. youre proud she poked caitlyn clark in the eye. not because she got mip," said another.

"Of course your proud she took a cheap shot at the woman who your so jealous of," reacted a user.

"Yea I bet you are , she tried to injure CC," accused another.

Whatever the case might be, all eyes will be on Carrington and Clark on Wednesday night when the Sun host the Fever at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut. There's a whole underlying narrative involving these two stars at the moment as Clark and Co. look to stave off elimination in Game 2.

A loss for the Fever means the end of the line for them this season.
