A juvenile was detained after fans reported an active threat at the Highland Home School football game Friday.

According to Crenshaw County Chief Deputy Chris Stewart, the juvenile made verbal threats to harm other individuals at the game. Witnesses reported the threat to Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Herbert, who was present at the game.

“[The juvenile] made a threat to someone that he was going to cause harm,” Stewart said. “Witnesses thought he had left the campus, but apparently he had not. Or, if he had, he left briefly and came back. The deputy was able to spot him and detain him.”

No actual altercation occurred on campus, Stewart noted, thanks to quick thinked of the witnesses who reported the incident and Hebert, who took action to locate and detain the juvenile.

“The threat was discovered thanks to reports from multiple witnesses,” Stewart said. “He was transported that night to the Southeast Alabama Youth Services in Dothan. He has since been before the judge and was placed under house arrest.”

Because the suspect is a juvenile, his name is being withheld, Stewart added.
