Texas Barbecue and Soul Food Earn Spots on New York Times’ Top 50 Restaurants

The New York Times has just revealed its list of "50 favorite places in America right now," with three Texas eateries earning a coveted spot. Barbs B Q in Lockhart, Simply South in Irving, and Viola & Agnes’ Neo Soul Café in Seabrook all made the cut.

Barbs B Q in Lockhart has earned praise for its innovative take on barbecue. The New York Times noted that pitmaster [Charnique Charnichart] “honors centuries of barbecue traditions while also bucking them,” adding that her distinctive approach sets her apart in the competitive barbecue scene. This is not the first time Barbs B Q has been recognized by the publication; it also appeared on the 2023 list of "20 Best Texas Barbecue Restaurants from the New Generation."

Simply South in Irving, which serves South Indian cuisine and Viola & Agnes’ Neo Soul Café in Seabrook were also highlighted for their unique and flavorful culinary offerings, reflecting the diversity and richness of Texas cuisine.

The inclusion of these three restaurants showcases Texas’ vibrant food culture and reinforces its position as a must-visit destination for food lovers nationwide.
