<body><div><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=28bwGv_0vjmJGB400" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=28bwGv_0vjmJGB400" width="1600" height="1242" ><h2>Ptacek/Nanninga take 2nd; Kneeland/Madilo place 3rd</h2>Every year when the Garden City High School girls head to the McPherson Invitational, the Lady Buffs know they will not only be seeing some new competition but also a high level skill set of players in both singles and doubles.It was that way on Tuesday when the Lady Buffs used strong performances by both of their doubles teams, placing second and third, to propel the team to a second-place finish with 64 points to finish behind host champion McPherson’s Red squad which tallied 73 points.Goddard-Eisenhower was third with 53 while Derby and McPherson’s White team rounded out the top five teams with 46 and 43 points, respectively, in the 10-team field.Mixing up his lineup a little, coach Logan Bevis paired up singles player Quincy Nanninga with Chloe Ptacek as one of the doubles’ entries along with the usual pairing of Kourtney Kneeland and Sofia Madilo.In doubles play, Ptacek and Nanninga went 3-1, falling in the championship match to McPherson Red’s Avery Unruh and Quinn Liebl, 3-8. They earlier had defeated Addison Lewis and Payzlee Regier of Hutchinson, 8-5; Emma Flaherty and Isabella Nikolova of Derby, 8-4; and Kennedy Tully and McKenna Paul of McPherson White, 8-7 (5).Kneeland and Madilo, who have been paired together in all the tournaments where both were available, had a stellar day, winning their opening match against Great Bend’s top pair – Darcy Feist and Mac Lindberg – in an 8-7 (0) tie breaker. They followed with an 8-6 tough win over Katie Demel and Loren Sweat of Derby before dropping a hard-fought 6-8 match against Unruh and Liebl, the eventual champions. In their third-place match, the Lady Buffs combo came away with an 8-5 victory over Tully and Paul of McPherson White.Playing singles in the open bracket (Nos. 1 and 2’s paired together) were usual doubles partner Jocelyn Kennedy and No. 1 singles player Danica Galia. Galia placed sixth and Kennedy eighth.Galia finished her day with a 2-2 record but had to default her final match due to an injury when she was in a tiebreaker (7-7) and trailing 4-5. It was a tough way to end her day. Kennedy, meanwhile, finished 1-3 against a tough draw. The most difficult match from a psychological standpoint was a consolation match against their own teammate, which Galia won 8-3. Galia also posted an 8-03 win over Ava Miller of McPherson White. Kennedy’s lone win came against Rylee Miller of Hutchinson, 8-2.The Lady Buffs traveled on to eastern Kansas for a Wednesday tournament at Olathe South before returning home to prepare for their own Lady Buffs Invitational on Saturday.
