<div>A brassiest of sounds marched onto campus Saturday, when the annual Blue and Gold high school marching band competition brought eight schools to Jayne Stadium. The competition was organized by the Morehead State music program.Kendrick Applegate, a former MSU Alum and Mason County band director, has been attending Blue and Gold since 2005.“There’s a reason why I come back every year,” said Applegate.“This is home.”Despite fewer bands participating than previous years, the spirit behind the tradition and the driving force behind the band members, staff and judges keep MSU hosting every year. “It’s a great opportunity to give back to our community,” said Duwayne Dale, the director of bands at MSU.With each school only given 15 minutes to preform, every second matters as everything is timed specifically to the competition. This year preliminary rounds were pushed back two hours due to a rain delay before allowing the event to commence. Lacie Justice, a senior at Pike Central and third year color guard member, said she loves the social aspect of performing and the atmosphere of the large audience.“I like going out on the field because the stands are so big. You can see everybody,” said Justice. Tatescreek took home first place and Boyle County earned second place.</div>
