<body><div><figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=1bvmuk_0vjrkxaj00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=1bvmuk_0vjrkxaj00" width="1210" height="806" ></figure><h2>Changes at the Top Mean Getting to Know Everyone All Over Again</h2><p>Before we go into the schedule for the upcoming women’s basketball season let’s remind everyone that things most certainly have changed in the coaching offices. With the departure of Kenny Brooks (and several players we will miss but won’t mention, here) the effort to find a new WBB coach was something that became a bit of a scramble for the fanbase. </p><p>We introduced everyone to Coach Megan Duffy back in the Spring, but it bears reminding everyone that also meant an entire staff turnover. Duffy, whose personal style is miles apart from Brooks’s, reshuffled the deck in the coaches’ locker room. Coach Duffy brought in three new coaches to help her with the team management. Itoro Coleman is the new Associate Head Coach and has a rich ACC history, playing at Clemson, and being fished off of the UNC staff. Sharnee Zoll-Norman will be an Assistant Coach and came from Penn State. Assistant Coach Jen Hoover was tapped in the fall out at Kentucky but earned her Air Jordans as the head coach of Wake Forest for 10 seasons. Hoover is a Roanoke, VA native so she’s back home where she belongs. </p><p>There have been lots of conditioning practices and work done, because a good portion of the team is new. We’ll cover the roster review in the next article, but it was critical to get some players to stay, especially the core that Duffy is going to need to keep the momentum going from the last two seasons. </p><h2>What This Season Looks Like for the 2024 Ramp-Up</h2><p>As is nearly always the case, the old year of the season (2024) is heavily concentrated toward non-conference opponents. Whatever shapes up, it will be the new model Lady Hokies’ first opposed game and could very well shape their next few court appearances. Monday November 4th the Hokies will open at Home and on TV when they face UNC-Wilmington in Cassell. That will be an important game because the Hokies head to Charlotte, NC to the ACC’s headquarters for the Ally Bank Tipoff game on November 10th. Tech will face off against Iowa in a rematch that will be missing many faces and talents from last season. </p><p>After the neutral site tipoff, the Lady Hokies come home to Blacksburg for four home games against an array of opponent skill levels. Another UNC shows up as UNC-Ashville starts off a three game in nine days home stand that includes Chopin State, and the Rutgers and then a four-day break ends the home stand with Elon coming to town to start off Thanksgiving week.</p><p>That nice home stand moves to neutral territory and the Hokies play in the Fort Meyer’s Tipoff. They take the long way home with a final non-conference road trip stop in Athens, GA to face the Lady Bulldogs in an SEC/ACC challenge matchup. </p><p>The oddball ACC opener will be against archrival Duke in Durham, NC on December 8th for a big Sunday 4pm tipoff. There is nothing like the Hokies having to start off with one of the most difficult programs to beat in the already tough ACC. </p><p>The 2024 year ends with a long Christmas/New Year’s Holiday break after the Hokies come home and face our friends the Radford Lady Highlanders on December 15th and then the year ends on the 21st against the Campbell Lady Camels. </p><p>We’ll talk about the 2025 portion of the schedule, and the ACC stretch run that lasts from January right through until the end of February without a letup. Right now, we haven’t seen this particular team take to the courts so making guesses about the record would be patently unfair to the players and coaches.</p><h2>A Reminder... Somewhere in that Schedule This Happens</h2><p>Elizabeth Kitley’s #33 won’t be worn by anyone else.
