Brenham had a narrow 5-4 kill advantage early in the match.Brenham then turned its play up a notch with several big runs en route to a 17-4 finish to the opening set. A 5-0 run ending with an ace from senior defensive specialist Ellie Van Dyke gave the Cubettes a 13-8 lead and prompted the first of Huntsville’s timeouts.Huntsville took the next three points after the timeout, but Brenham came right back with another 5-0 run to take an 18-11 advantage. Junior middle blocker Kylie Baker provided the Cubettes a kill and a block with freshman outside hitter Aubrey Morrison ending the set with two of her eight kills on the night.After the Lady Hornets broke up the run with a kill, Brenham took the last seven points, thanks to two kills from senior Lainie Bolcerek. An ace from Morrison ended the set.Brenham’s momentum carried over into the start of the second set. After beginning the set with an attack error, the Cubettes put together their fourth run of at least five points to take a 5-1 lead. Two more kills from Morrison highlighted the run.Though Morrison’s eight kills did not lead the team, she did lead Brenham defensively with 20 digs, the second highest total of her young career.The second major run of the set came much later on. Brenham moved a competitive 14-11 set into a 10-point lead with a seven-point run, thanks to great serving from Van Dyke. Two aces from the senior kept the run going late with kills from sophomore hitter Brooklyn Stolz and Antyiahna Lang complementing Van Dyke’s serve.The Cubettes as a team put together one of their finest serving nights of the season with 14 aces and just four serving errors. Tuesday’s effort equaled tournament matches against Caney Creek and Klein Oak as second-best in aces.“These are the numbers I want to see,” Brenham coach Megan Whalen said. “That was big.”Brenham started the third set in an identical fashion to the second. An opening service error was followed by a 5-0 run featuring four kills split equally between Bolcerek and junior outside hitter Shelbey Cross.Bolcerek’s kills wrapped up an 11-kill night with a .294 hitting percentage. Most of her kills came on either end with Lang continuing her streak of efficient hitting nights Tuesday with 11 kills on just 14 attacks for a .714 hitting percentage.The Cubettes got their lead to as many as nine points early in the third at 13-4 after back-to-back aces from junior defensive specialist Zoe Zwerneman. Brenham’s largest lead of the third set came later on at 22-12 following a 5-0 run that was matched by Huntsville.The win gave Brenham a lot of confidence as it continues its trek through a difficult district schedule which includes district leader A&amp;M Consolidated on Friday evening.“We all know that we have what it takes,” Bolcerek said. “I think that was leading to a lot of frustration, but I think we started gaining our confidence because we have seen ourselves. We know what we can do at this point and I think that is really going to set us off on a good note in the rest of district.”</div></body>
