He lined up opposite No. 6 Radu Papoe of Cornell. Vives dominated the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 win.Maxted was equally impressive, gradually overpowering Tennessee's Alex Kotzen to the tune of a 7-6 (1), 6-1 triumph.Papoe represented the highest-ranked player Vives has defeated. Vives, No. 37 nationally, won five of six possible break points. He broke Papoe's first and third service games in set one.Vives improved his fall singles record to 21-11 and is now 7-7 vs. ranked opposition. The Spaniard meets No. 28 Ryan Colby of Georgia on Thursday in the round of 32. Maxted won five straight games in set two. He saved a deuce point on serve to take the lead for good at 2-1. He then used a double break to close the show.The triumph signified Maxted's third ITA top-50 victory of the fall. He downed No. 15 Jay Friend (Arizona) and 44th-ranked Theo Dean (Cal) on Sept. 12-13 at the Battle in the Bay Classic. Maxted now rematches Dean in Oklahoma with a spot in the final 16 on the line.Vives and Maxted capped a perfect day in doubles, defeating Colby and Thomas Paulsell in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Their round of 16 assignment comes in the form of Duke's 16th-ranked tandem of Cooper Williams and Theo Winegar on Thursday evening.The ITA All-American Championships are the first of four invitationals used the set the field for November's NCAA Individual Championships.
