The superintendent says there has been noise and air pollution for years. Environmental advocates have been calling for it to close since 2017.Assemblyman John Mcdonald was joined by theRensselaer Environmental Coalition Wednesday night where residents had the opportunity to voice their concerns about air quality, pollution, and school proximity.Assemblyman McDonald responded to those concerns saying there are roadblocks to the problem that are not addressed enough."There needs to be a closure plan, and no one is having that conversation about how the city of Rensselaer is going to replace the 800,000 dollar loss in their budget," said Assemblyman Mcdonald. "It's a concern that has to be part of this conversation."Mcdonald also says there are generations of court cases where judges have allowed landfill permits to be extended, further complicating the issue.</div></body>
