<body><div>Michael “Mick” David Goodwin, 76, of Jane Lew, surrounded by his loving family, journeyed to the Lord on Monday, September 9, 2024, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport.He was born on January 5, 1948, in Parkersburg, a son of the late James Muryl Goodwin and Oma Estelle Shaver Rake and Benjamin Rake. In addition to his parents, Mick was preceded in death by one sister, Eileen Graham; and two brothers: James Goodwin and Ronald<figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=41o5Qm_0vjzixf100" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=41o5Qm_0vjzixf100" width="339" height="401" ></figure>Goodwin.Mick was united in marriage on June 14, 1968, to his beloved wife of 56 years, Patricia “Pat” McKown Goodwin, who will miss him dearly.Treasuring their memories of Mick are his wife, Pat; son, Michael “Mick” Goodwin Jr. of Valley Chapel; grandson, Benjamin “Ben” Goodwin; granddaughter, Tabitha (Clinton) Helmick; special daughter, Kelly Goodwin; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Lois (Dave Hasley) Kerns; brothers: Jan (Helen) Hunt, Steve (Karen) Hunt, and Wayde (Libby) Hunt, all of Vienna; and sisters-in-law: Sharon Goodwin and Debbie Goodwin, who will cherish their memories of Mick.Mick graduated from Parkersburg High School (1966), Glenville State College (1971), and West Virginia University, earning two Master of Arts degrees in Safety Management (1982) and Education Administration/Leadership (1986). He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era. After returning home from the military, Mick dedicated his life for 34 years to the students of Lewis County as a teacher, coach, athletic director, coordinator, and Lewis County Schools Administrator of Curriculum and Instruction, Vocational Education, Transportation, Building and Maintenance, and Textbook Selections. Mick had a broad spectrum of skills. In addition to his education career, he also spent time employed with Denver Turner Construction Company as a carpenter, and Wolfe Paving in Jane Lew.Spending time with his wife, son, family, and friends brought him great joy, and he especially loved fishing, hunting, and traveling in the United States. Mick was a devoted Christian, currently attending Broad Run Baptist Church.Mick’s request for Cremation has been honored at Pat Boyle Funeral Home’s On-Site Crematory. Family and friends will gather at Pat Boyle Funeral Home located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024. A Celebration of Life will begin at 1 pm in the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Conrad officiating.In lieu of flowers, donations in Mick’s honor can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
