Southern California Weather: HeatWave to Impact Desert Areas, Slight Cooling Expected Next Week

The National Weather Service has issued an update forecasting minimal day-to-day weather changes through the weekend, but residents in Southern California’s deserts should brace for intense heat. A high-pressure system to the east and a weak low-pressure system to the west will keep temperatures steady before warming takes over by Friday.

Currently, low clouds are moving along the San Diego coast and are expected to reach parts of Orange County and the western valleys overnight. On Thursday, temperatures are expected to stay consistent or drop slightly across most areas. However, by Friday and Saturday, the deserts will experience a noticeable increase, with high temperatures ranging 7 to 13 degrees above normal.

The lower deserts could see temperatures soaring over 110 degrees by Saturday, with the High Desert also facing highs over 95 degrees. This will lead to widespread major HeatRisk in the lower deserts and moderate HeatRisk in higher elevations. Residents and visitors in desert regions are advised to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.

In contrast, coastal and inland areas west of the mountains will experience cooler temperatures due to a thinner marine layer. The marine layer will compress further over the weekend, leading to patchy fog near the coast.
