Buffalo, NY- Mercyhurst Field Hockey fell to D'Youville University today by a score of 2-3 in a close game that came down to an overtime nail-biter. D'Youville struck first in the game, scoring a goal late in the first quarter. The Lakers held the Saints scoreless in the second quarter, leaving the score 0-1 going into the half. Things started to heat up in the third quarter as junior Delfina Magro scored her first goal of the season and tied the game. Just a few minutes later, sophomore Rachel Kosowski capitalized on Magro's goal, scoring her second goal of the season and making the score 2-1 to take the lead. Hopes were high as the Lakers continued to take shots at the net. Although, the Saints responded, scoring a goal to tie the game late in the third quarter. With the score 2-2 going into the final quarter of the game, tensions were high. Mercyhurst played well defensively, holding D'Youville scoreless again in the fourth quarter, and forcing an overtime battle. The Lakers were prepared for what was to come, but the Saint ultimately struck first as they scored just a minute into overtime, overtaking Mercyhurst by a score of 2-3. Along with her goal, Rachel Kosowski also led the team in shots, making four on the day and goalkeeper Kayla Desormeau totaled six saves.
