One person was injured as a result of a gas line rupture on Tile Factory Road near Mt. Vernon Junior and Senior High School yesterday. Officials say a worker contracted with CenterPoint was working at the scene and hit an 8 inch pipeline at approximately 12:57 PM on Wednesday. One person was transported to a hospital with a minor injury. Officials with CenterPoint Energy say this incident resulted in temporary electricity loss for approximately 1,250 customers, which have since been restored. Neighboring businesses were impacted after officials shut down the gas line following the rupture. One house was also reportedly evacuated. School officials dismissed students as soon as possible, all after school practices were relocated, and all events on campus were canceled.
